Support at Home, explained
Australia's in-home aged-care system since November 2025. One assessment, services grouped into three categories, and a means-tested contribution — here is what that means for you.
What you need to know
Support at Home is the Australian Government programme that, from 1 November 2025, replaced Home Care Packages and Short-Term Restorative Care. (The Commonwealth Home Support Programme transitions later — no earlier than 1 July 2027.)
Single Assessment
One assessment through My Aged Care that covers everything, so you are not repeating yourself to three different people.
Person-Centred Care
Services tailored to your needs and goals, rather than rigid package levels.
Transparent Funding
Clear categories and contribution rates so you know what's government-funded and what you contribute.
Greater Choice & Control
More flexibility to choose providers and how your care is delivered.
Simplified Access
A single entry point for all in-home aged-care services.
Regular Reviews
Ongoing reassessment so your support keeps pace with your changing needs.
How funding works
Services sit in three categories. Your contribution is means-tested — full pensioners pay the lowest rates, self-funded retirees the highest, with part-pensioners on a sliding scale between.
Clinical supports
0% — fully government-funded
Nursing & wound care, chronic-disease and medication management, allied health (physio, OT, podiatry).
Independence services
5%–50% (means-tested)
Personal care, mobility assistance, transport, respite, social support, assistive technology.
Everyday living services
17.5%–80% (means-tested)
Domestic assistance & cleaning, home maintenance, gardening, meal preparation.
Home modifications and equipment are funded through the separate Assistive Technology & Home Modifications (AT-HM) scheme (tiered upfront funding), with an Independence-rate contribution on items. Unspent quarterly funds carry over up to the greater of $1,000 or 10% of your quarterly budget. Check your eligibility →
